Smartlipo MPX^TM body sculpting is the latest method for removing fat with a laser. The technique involves the use of a laser to rapidly dissolve fat and tighten surrounding skin almost anywhere in the body. Through use of two laser energies, the Smartlipo MPX^TM technique enhances tissue tightening and allows for less surgical trauma with faster recovery. Done in an office setting, patients have a choice of sedation, whether local anesthesia or twilight sleep, for maximum comfort.

Smartlipo MPX^TM is an excellent technique for removal of fat from difficult areas of the body. It is more efficient at removing fat from localized pockets which have proven resistant to exercise, dieting or conventional liposuction. Ideal patients are in good health, not obese, have an active lifestyle but have pockets of fat they wish to remove.

The dual-laser frequency Smartlipo MPX^TM has been designed to treat localized pockets of fat in the following areas:

• chin (double or hanging chin)
• neck and back of the neck
• jowls of the face
• hips
• waist
• upper arms
• inner and outer thighs
• males with breasts (gynecomastia)
• selected female breasts
• pubic mound

The procedure is performed in our Bel-Red Surgical Facility, a state-licensed, Medicare certified surgical center. Prior to the procedure, the areas with excess fat are marked and a local tumescent anesthetic is used to numb the areas. Through tiny skin incisions a narrow tube (cannula) with a laser fiber is inserted into the fat layer under the skin. The laser breaks up the fat cells, liquefying them to allow gentle suction removal. Since the laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate (gel) immediately on contact, there is less bleeding and swelling than with traditional liposuction. The laser procedure heats up the overlying skin and promotes collagen formation to enhance skin tightening and firming. In selected patients theSmartlipo MPX^TM technique allows for contouring and firming of areas such as the chin, neck and arms in patients who have less fatty tissue and more loose skin and thus are not ideal candidates for conventional lipo-sculpture (liposuction).

The majority of individuals have minimal bruising. To decrease swelling a pressure dressing or a compression garment is applied depending on the location of the treated area. Mild discomfort can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medications. Soon after the laser treatment, the area will appear tighter- compact and flatter. The skin and surrounding area will remodel and adjust to the body contour over the next few months. Since remodeling is a gradual process it can sometimes take up to 6 months for full improvement.

As an experienced and board-certified cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Zemplenyi and Dr. Novia use Smartlipo MPX^TM along with more traditional liposuction to address areas of substantial fat that are best first treated with tumescent liposuction. Laser liposuction is then added during the same procedure to melt small pocket of fat and specifically to tighten the overlying skin. Along with conventional liposuction, Smartlipo MPX^TM is an excellent addition that can be used to remodel remaining areas of fat. Our technique combines power-assisted tumescent liposuction with the latest body sculpturing modalities to achieve the desired results in the safety and comfort of our surgical center.
